module description
This Weebly website will be used in conjunction with an in-class module about "Buying a Home." The entire module will take approximately 3 weeks in our full-time class. There are components to the module that will not be associated with the Weebly site. For example, learners will also fill out an application form for home insurance. The content in the Weebly site will only support and expand upon some of the real-world tasks that we will be working on, and those tasks were chosen for the Weebly site as technology can be used as a way to enhance their learning of these tasks.
The 4 online lessons are scaffolded. Lesson one will focus on vocabulary building and accessing a Google Docs document for the first time. This lesson will be conducted in the computer lab over an hour-long period so learners have support using Google Docs for the first time together. Lesson two will focus on a task that has been completed for homework each week, their Listening Log, but will change the method of delivery and production. Learners are accustomed to completing a Listening Log each week, but now they will have the opportunity to complete it online and have the opportunity to view other learners' logs. Lesson three will build upon the skills they have learned in the previous lessons and will focus on getting learners to navigate different websites at the same time and find pieces of information in formatted texts (websites). This lesson will be conducted in the computer lab with my support. The lessons culminate in a task that they will do for homework in Lesson four. Learners will conduct a video search for home safety while on vacation and will access a Google Docs page and input information without support. This task directly leads to one of their summative assessment tasks that will occur in the classroom a day or two after this online lesson is complete. Once the four online lessons are complete, learners are asked to complete a short self-assessment survey based on questions by Bralic and Divjak (2018) that will help me evaluate the effectiveness of my module.
