By the end of the module on "Buying a Home," learners will have developed competencies outlined in the LINC curriculum document by Hajer and Kaskens (2012). Working with CLB 6 competencies, learners will:
- “Understand descriptive or narrative monologues or presentations on generally familiar and relevant topics” (Hajer & Kaskens, 2012, p. 19) by watching YouTube videos,
- “Participate in routine social conversations for some everyday purposes (such as […] expressing opinions)” (Hajer & Kaskens, 2012, p. 54) by engaging in discussion questions in class about the content and use of technology (in-class),
- “Locate and use 2 or 3 pieces of information from moderately complex formatted texts (such as maps, course calendars, directories or website navigation menus)” and “Access, locate and compare 2 or 3 pieces of information from online reference sources” (Hajer & Kaskens, 2012, p. 91) through the use of navigating websites to find information about mortgage rates and available properties,
- “Write 1 or 2 connected paragraphs to relate a familiar sequence of events, a story, a detailed description, or a comparison of people, things, routines or simple procedures” (Hajer & Kaskens, 2012, p. 127) through descriptive reflections based on questions (in-class),
- "Understand moderately complex instructions and instructional texts for multi-step procedures" (Hajer & Kaskens, 2012, p. 91) through an in-class reading assessment (in-class), and
- "Reduce a page of information to an outline or summary" (Hajer & Kaskens, 2012, p. 126) through an outline writing assessment (in-class).
